Patrick OosterveerHR Manager

We start by saying good morning to all our colleagues and having a cup of coffee to kick-start the day. Usually, my days are filled with HR-related activities. When I switch on my computer, there may already be someone who has called in sick. I’m notified of this by the group leaders, via the production managers, so that I can take the necessary action. An absence file is created by our health and safety service, which takes care of all the stuff related to that. My core tasks include things like absenteeism support, recruiting new staff, and communication with current staff. The selection of new staff and the ensuing interviews are another source of personal contact. I also have to make sure admin has the right personal details so it can process the contracts and other required documentation.

All of these aspects, from personal support with reintegration after long-term absence, to contact with potential new colleagues make my job varied and full of surprises. We end the day once we’ve done everything we need to do. One thing is certain, no two days are the same and you’ll always be challenged in a positive way to develop your own qualities and skills.

Hensley ApostelTechnical services employee

We are all here at around seven every morning; we then discuss what might have happened since 4:30 PM the afternoon before. We also discuss any peculiarities and points for attention for the day. At 7:30 AM, every technician heads to his or her department for a brief lean-board session with the group leader and production staff.

We then do a check of the department, which takes around 30 minutes. Afterwards, we continue with our usual activities, which might include upgrading machinery and overhauling and repairing parts. If a fault comes along in the meantime, we fix it. Our activities are varied and include electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic work.

We’re a small, friendly team of technicians, always ready to support others and work with others to find solutions to faults.

A typical working day at Janus Vaten begins at 7:30 AM and ends at 4:30 PM. We start the day with a start-up meeting. Here we discuss the orders of the day, safety, working efficiently, and key events from the day before.

The day is divided into four blocks, with time between each block for a coffee break or lunch. Some days we have to do overtime, and you indicate in the morning whether or not you are available for it. During the breaks in the new canteen, you can enjoy free fruit or a quick game of table football with one of your colleagues. The activities vary from production hall to production hall, and the activities can be varied according to a skills matrix so that you don’t have to do the same work all day. This keeps up the variation, and of course you have some say over what activities you do.
